The Bernina Sewing Centre Tauranga, is a family legacy in the Bay of Plenty. Established in 1970 by Bev and Ken Hayman and carried on today by their daughters Robyn and Glenda. In fact on some days, there are three generations working in the store and they are all passionate about the business that has survived 38 years, and often has the highest number of Bernina machine sales in Australasia.
In the same building is Bernina Services and Repairs owned and run by Graeme Philp. Graeme is a Bernina technical specialist with 28 years experience and will provide all your servicing and repair needs.
Robyn and Glenda believe their business is for anyone who “creates with their hands in fibre and fabric” so the creativity and energy that pours out of the Cameron Road store, is infectious. A place where customers become friends, and everyone shares in the creation of a project, the Bernina Sewing Centre Tauranga encompasses a sense of community and encourages innovation in its customers, staff and products. Visiting their store is a truly interactive experience.
Meet the Team -

Glenda, the store where it all happens Robyn
Robyn Co-owner with sister Glenda. ‘Machinist extraordinaire’. Loves trialling new ideas, then sharing them in Bernina Club meetings. Always happy to teach new techniques to Bernina machine owners, or to advise on sewing problems. Provides free lessons when a new machine is purchased.
Glenda Co-owner – calmly in control of the general shop, and knows where every item is. Always smiling and helpful. Will go to enormous lengths to source any product for a special order.

Bev Elizabeth Maureen
Bev - Founded the business with her late husband Ken, in 1970. Two of her four daughters took over the business in 2005, but Bev is sometimes seen in store to keep us on our toes.
Elizabeth - Prefers hand needles to machine needles, and loves the patchwork fabrics. Updates the website and often pulls a camera out of her pocket to capture a new view for the website.
Maureen - Has worked in store for about twenty years so has a huge knowledge of Bernina machines. Always happy to demonstrate the new models and work out which will best fit your sewing needs.
Emma - Robyn's daughter, so the 3rd generation family member working in the store. Copes with the eftpos paper work and keeps track of magazine orders. Talk to Emma if you would like a particular magazine held for you and she will phone as soon as it is in store.
Diane - Sister to Robyn and Glenda, so another gold-mine of sewing knowledge, and makes many of the sample garments on display in store.
Joanne - always a friendly face to help you select your fabrics for your quilting projects.

Bernie is in store. In a former life he was a fur coat, until he was transformed by Stan, the Huggy Bear man. |
